Racist Incidents

We adopt the definition of racial harassment that is recommended by the MacPherson Report, which is:

"Any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or by any other person"

We are opposed to all forms of racial harassment and will take swift and appropriate action against perpetrators of such behaviour. Our Tenancy Agreement explicitly prohibits harassment on the grounds of 'race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation and disability' (Section 18 Subsection 15). In addition, as harassment is deemed to be anti-social behaviour, general nuisance clauses will also apply to such conduct.

We have the same policy aims for racial harassment as we do for anti-social behaviour. In addition, we are a member of MAGRAH (Multi-Agency Group against Racial Attacks and Harassment). This is a multi-agency body which collates the number of incidents of racial harassment and deals with cases referred to it.

A complaint about racial harassment committed by or against an RFHA resident can be made verbally or in writing to the relevant Housing Officer or any member of the Customer Support Team. The complaint will be dealt with promptly and sympathetically. All allegations of racial harassment are classified as 'high risk' and as such have a response time of 1 working day for the Housing Officer to make contact.
